A flexible approach to bonding

MS Polymer flexible adhesives are said to offer many benefits to users and are well suited to a wide variety of different applications. These include uses in industries and applications as diverse as construction, the manufacture of modular and portable buildings, marine, caravan and motorhome manufacture as well as in metal fabrication. This article, submitted by Eurobond Adhesives, highlights some advantages of these adhesives that may be of use to both design and production personnel

A flexible approach to bonding

MS Polymer adhesives from Eurobond Adhesives are flexible, one or two component moisture and/or chemically curing adhesives. Typically they will bond most materials together including metals, painted metals, wood, composites, glass and some plastics.

Depending on the chemistry of the particular adhesive they can have a very fast ‘’initial grab’’ and then ‘on cure’ or a steady through-cure to a thickness of 3mm over a 24hr period (dependent upon the environment in which they are applied). They offer good resistance to vibration, shock, impact and can accommodate different coefficient thermal expansion rates between different materials. MS Polymers can even be applied to damp surfaces. We offer a series of five different MS Polymers, all with definitive and distinctive properties providing different advantages.

SAFE FIX® FR300 Is a fire-resistant flexible adhesive designed to bond most construction materials. SAFE FIX® has a fire resistance of up to 4 hours and can counter the spread of fire, smoke or toxic vapours and fumes. Safe Fix® FR 300 is also certified for horizontal joints and connections to floor/ceiling with walls, wooden and steel casings and all stud applications. The fire-resistance is  tested and conforms with EN1366-4 to 240 minutes in a horizontal or vertical joint measuring 30 mm wide. The tests were performed in accordance with European standard EN1366-4:2000+A1:2000 using the standard heat curve. Based on the test performed in accordance with EN1366-4:2000+A1:2010 and the extended application in accordance with EN 15882- 4:2012, the system was classified in accordance with EN13501-2:2007+A1:2009. Eurobond SOLO® High Tack is a high tack, single part structural adhesive, offering a high initial grab and a fast cure. It produces a highly resilient bond between a wide range of substrates (with the exception of PE and PP). The resultant bonds are resistant to water, sea water, oils and most common solvents and is suitable for use in temperatures from as low as  -40°Celsius to as high as +150°Celsius. It is also resistant to UV light and aggressive environments. Eurobond Solo-High Tack has been specifically formulated to build high initial bond strength on a variety of complex substrates including those associated with industrial prefabricated structures, including portable utility buildings, dwellings, containers and vehicle bodies. It can be used for other industrial applications such as bonding and sealing of steel floor plates, rubbing strips, skylights, heavy profiles, and lap seams for example. Eurobond Solo-High Tack has been designed to hold unsupported components against a vertical plane or soffit soon after application. Eurobond Solo-High Tack is non-hazardous, contains no free isocyanates, VOC’s, acids or halogens. For most applications primerless adhesion can be obtained. Eurobond Solo-High Tack is tolerant to damp substrates and does not shrink on curing. Discover more here.

Eurobond CLEAR FIX® is a ‘FOOD SAFE’ transparent, universal and flexible adhesive and construction joint seal that will bond all kinds of materials (with the exception of low surface energy material such as PP and PE). This adhesive can be used on almost any surface and is extremely versatile. Eurobond CLEAR FIX® is completely free of solvents, plasticizers, silicones and isocyanates and is our most proven formulation. Discover more here.

Eurobond QUICK FIX® is a non-hazardous, high quality fast curing (1 hour) flexible 2-part MS Polymer adhesive supplied in a convenient 290ml cartridge to fit most sealant applicator guns. It will bond most materials (with the exception of low surface energy materials such as PP and PE). It is suitable for applications where a quick cure, high strength and permanently elastic bond is required, or for applications where the bond design does not allow the normal penetration of atmospheric moisture to effect a cure. Quick Fix® exhibits good resistance to water, UV, aliphatic solvents, mineral oils, grease, diluted inorganic acids and alkalis. Discover more here.

Eurobond Multi Seal® is a grey coloured universal polymer adhesive and construction joint seal for bonding all kinds of materials (with the exception of PE and PP). This adhesive can be used on almost any surface and is extremely versatile. It is completely free of solvents, plasticisers, silicones and isocyanates and is certified safe for use in applications with direct food contact. Discover more here.
