Design your future at Design Engineering Expo 2022

Design your future at Design Engineering Expo 2022

With innovation at its core, Design Engineering Expo 2022 is the perfect place for forward thinking design engineering professionals to gain insight into new technologies, learn how to improve efficiencies and gain inspiration for ideas they can implement into their workplace, to put them ahead of their competitors and form part of their future strategy.

Taking place as part of Manufacturing and Engineering Week, a new two-day event celebrating the best of UK manufacturing and engineering excellence, Design Engineering Expo from 8-9 June will provide a focused environment where the UK’s design engineering community can meet the suppliers delivering the latest tech to drive efficiencies and propel the future of design engineering in the UK.

The event will feature exhibitors and experts showcasing a wide range of products and services, from design services, electronics and embedded design through to testing and measurement. A variety of exhibitions, seminars and workshop events will also provide a forum for sourcing the most innovative solutions and materials to improve process efficiency and optimise design strategy.

Featuring case studies from companies that have implemented some of the latest ground-breaking technologies to optimise their business, and a programme of CPD accredited conferences and workshops which will educate design engineering professionals on how to tackle some of engineering’s biggest challenges and optimise their efficiency, this event is a great opportunity for anyone looking to explore the latest innovations in the world of engineering. There will also be a special challenge built around the famous 1980s Great Egg Race television show which you will not want to miss.

The event offers a full calendar of seminars set to inspire design engineers to tackle some of the biggest challenges they are facing in their roles. Seminar topics include:

  • The UK National Space Strategy, with a focus on the latest launch technologies
  • Zero emissions air services - a greener way to solve the challenges we face
  • A technical look into designing for speed
  • Should automation be seen as an evolution or revolution?
  • Designing for the circular economy
  • Using design thinking to envision a better way of working
  • A case study showcasing the world’s first methane powered tractor

Visitors can also take part in a selection of workshops which will address some of the key issues that industrial businesses are set to face in 2022 and beyond.

With innovation at the heart of design engineering, Design Engineering Expo’s very own innovation zone is a key part of the event. Visitors can see the latest solutions in action with live demonstrations of some of the most ingenious technologies and learn how they could be put into practice in your own engineering environment. The Innovation Zone will showcase live demonstrations of the UK’s most cutting-edge products, helping visitors discover the latest technologies that are shaping the future of British industry.

Highlights include an AI car and the world’s first VTOL biplane, displayed by Coventry University’s Formula Student and UAS Challenge Teams, in association with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, plus an Aston Martin Formula 1 racing car simulator which uses cloud ERP from software vendor IFS. Have a spin in the simulator for a chance to take part in the fastest lap competition, take your spot on the Top Gear style leader board and win prizes.

A key ingredient in the creation of Design Engineering Expo has been the involvement of an Advisory Council of UK experts, bringing together experience from across industry, trade associations, professional bodies, government and academia to help shape a programme of radically new events.

Selected from well-known experts in their field, the Advisory Council meet regularly, chaired by Stephen Phipson CBE, CEO of Make UK. Libby Meyrick, CEO of the Institution of Design Engineers, a member of the Advisory Council, said: “Design doesn’t stop – it’s dynamic, forthright and exciting, and the IED is supporting the launch of the Design Engineering Expo to help showcase all of these elements and the outstanding work of the design community now and in the future.”
