Printed electronics partnership can accelerate innovation in digitisation of healthcare
This new collaboration has the potential to further accelerate innovation in the digitisation of healthcare, it is stated, by combining Henkel’s expertise in advanced material solutions with the leading medical and technical skills of Extra Horizon, which can provide a certified backend platform and technology to medical applications.
Faster launches or upscaling
“By providing the entire backend or technical framework for medical applications, Extra Horizon’s platform enables faster launches or upscaling, while at the same time ensuring strict compliance with all regulation required for obtaining product approvals under the new medical device regulations in Europe (CE approval under MDR regulation) or FDA approvals in the US,” says Henkel.
“In combining these strong technical capacities with Henkel’s experience in materials for medical-grade wearable solutions and smart patches, the partners can offer MedTech companies all the capabilities they need to bring their projects to fruition – from software to wearable solutions.”
Stijn Gillissen, head of printed electronics Henkel, comments: “I am very pleased to be able to add a MedTech pioneer like Extra Horizon to our network of partners. Their vast experience in digital health is an excellent complement to our expertise in material solutions for smart patches – which is more relevant than ever in the e-health market that is proving its huge potential.”
Broader international growth
Lars Grieten, CEO Extra Horizon, adds: “A collaboration with a leading global player such as Henkel will broaden our international growth and network. Combining our strengths, we cover critical elements in the value chain for MedTech and digital health companies, and are able to support end-to-end solutions. Together, we’re well positioned to support and accelerate the rapid growth medtech/digital health solutions are undergoing”
Extra Horizon is described as a medical backend-as-a-service platform developed by Qompium – a digital health pioneer founded in 2014 as a Belgian company – which enables ground-breaking medical apps to join the digital health revolution faster.
The Extra Horizon platform disrupts the digital health space by delivering a critical component: a medical infrastructure that is said to offer agility, global regulatory compliance and scalability, with a full suite of essential functionalities.
