Tapping in to Tappex threaded inserts
A moulding company, which makes interior components for the automotive industry, contacted Tappex Thread Inserts, having researched its Generation 3 multi-point Heat Installation tool.
The tool, which is application specific, is designed to allow quick, easy and repeatable installation of a range of Tappex threaded inserts – Multisert, Microbarb, Dedsert and Suresert female and male inserts. The machine is sold as standard with a single heater cartridge fitted, but is capable of installing up to 4 inserts at multiple heights at one time, with additional cartridges added.
Improving production
The moulding company in question had an injection-moulded component that required post-mould insertion of 4 Tappex Multiserts. “Our customer told us they are keen to use new and innovative equipment, and to develop new methods to constantly improve production,” states Tappex Thread Inserts, “and we were able to help them achieve these goals, also increasing productivity and saving costs in the manufacturing process of this component.”
Tappex Thread Inserts collaborated with the company’s design engineers to offer tailored heat tip locations to match the client’s own jig. “The ability to install 4 inserts simultaneously offers substantial time and cost savings over the previous single point equipment, and can easily be reconfigured for use with future projects,” adds Tappex Thread Inserts.
Reaching the heights
Its Heat Inserter is also capable of holding heat cartridges of different lengths, which, it says, is “very beneficial to the customer, if they have multiple inserts to heat insert into the component at different heights”.
The machine was able to go directly into the production process, providing a plug-in solution adjacent to the moulding machine. Thread insert installation can now be completed by the operator within the moulding cycle time.
