Levelling foot design saves time and cost
Bax Metaal is a manufacturer of bedframes and has established a reputation for both its product quality and turnround time for customers. Essentra Components has been involved in the design of a part that has saved Bax Metaal both time and money
Tasked with creating frames for a new box spring bed, Bax Metaal identified that it needed to procure levelling feet that came complete with a plastic insert and a bumper, something which they calculated would deliver the technical advantages sought for the project, as well as savings on assembly time.
The company already enjoyed a good working relationship with Essentra Components, so it asked for their support and expertise on the subject. The Bax Metaal R&D team supplied Essentra Components with drawings and following a number of discussions, Essentra swiftly provided free samples to support the assembly of the prototypes.
With a tight Bax Metaal deadline in mind, Essentra identified standard components from its product range, comprising of a threaded insert together with an adjustable foot and a bumper which possessed the required hardness and specified dimensions. The combination turned out to provide Bax Metaal with a practical solution that was provided within the described timeframe, and without additional expense, says Essentra.
By delivering the feet ready to install (ie with the foot, insert and bumper already pre-assembled as a single item) Essentra says that it allowed Bax Metaal to reduce its parts count and cost, as well as saving the manufacturer an estimated 425 hours of assembly time too. The project went from initial discussions to the Bax Metaal bedframes appearing in showrooms just 10 weeks later.
