New high temperature resistant cyanoacrylate adhesive

Permabond has introduced a new cyanoacrylate adhesive which is resistant to high temperatures

New high temperature resistant cyanoacrylate adhesive

The recently introduced PERMABOND® 825 is a low viscosity cyanoacrylate adhesive that is said to provide high strength at high temperatures. It is a fast-setting cyanoacrylate which bonds metals, rubbers, plastics, and a variety of other materials. It resists temperatures of up to 200°Celsius and is claimed to have excellent retention of strength during thermal ageing.

Permabond says that its new 825 offers strong bonds with no secondary or post-curing required to achieve temperature resistance, and that it features a  Low viscosity of 120 mPa.s It is designed to tolerates stresses at high temperature and does not require zero-gap: it can provide better thermal stability with a larger gap as well as an improved ability to bond issimilar surfaces.

Other features and advantages highlighted by Permabond include higher strength retention after thermal ageing, citing 17 MPa bond strength to mild steel at 25°Celsius and 4 MPa bond strength to mild steel at 150°Celsius. The company states that the new product differs from other high temperature ethyl and allyl cyanoacrylates as it does not require a post-cure at high temperature before it achieves full strength. This helps speed up production processes and can help reduce costs because the use of clamping, jigs and ovens are not required. Component parts can be bonded in seconds and be moved on to the next stage of a production process swiftly. The rapid strength development of 825 ensures that parts are soon ready to be put into use, either at normal room temperature (or in harsher conditions such as solder reflow processes or paint bake ovens) or for general use in high temperature environments.

Patent-pending technology has been developed to help Permabond satisfy user demands in a number of market sectors including electronics, electric motor manufacture and e-mobility battery applications, as well as for bonding applications where post assembly paint baking is carried out.
