Typhoon brings bolt tightening wind of change
Boltight's Typhoon range of bolt tensioners from Nord-Lock are said to offer a high-load, low profile solution for space-restricted applications demanding high and accurate preloads, such as wind turbines
Nord-Lock’s Boltight Typhoon tensioners exert a high load with both a multi-stage (well suitable for radial obstruction applications, and a single stage which is designed for vertical obstruction applications. Available as standard to fit sizes M24 to M64 (which are held in stock), the company can also produce specials as well.
Although much utilised in wind turbine applications (see video), Nord-Lock cites crane slewing rings, tunnel boring machines and gas turbine casings as typical of other applications for Typhoon. The unit is designed for high loads of up to 95% yield stress for 10.9 bolts and features a spring loaded gear drive for nut rotation with automatic piston retraction and a positive stop facility.
Nord-Lock says that Typhoon is suitable for height restricted areas, features a durable coating on all components and also provides a joint misalignment compensation feature together with an internal fail safe mechanism.
